Numsa Strike

Numsa Strike

The Metal Industry has been severely affected by the NUMSA Strike which came into effect on the 4th July 2011.  Toolquip & Allied has also been affected as we have some NUMSA members on staff, mainly in our Johannesburg distribution, warehouse and workshop areas.

We have put contingency plans into action to service our customers but there will be some disruption to our order processing and deliveries.  In order to keep supply going we have implemented the following arrangements:

  • Internal staff have been re-deployed to pick, pack and prepare customer orders.
  • Some Sales Reps have been re-deployed to assist with deliveries.
  • We may not be able to process orders timeousely due to the volumes, but we are handling order processing as efficiently as possible.
  • Machine deliveries will be subject to confirmation.
  • Access to certain Industrial Areas may be restricted due to picketing.
  • Where possible we request customers to collect urgent orders.
  • Branch transfers will be affected due to lack of picking staff.  Our Branches will liaise with their customers on the situation.
  • The unpacking of incoming shipments will be delayed as we will give preference to processing sales orders.
  • Our management team is accessing the situation on an ongoing basis.

We do not know how long the situation will continue as it is subject to the negotiations between NUMSA and the Bargaining Council (SEIFSA, MEIBC).

We appreciate your understanding in this matter and trust that the situation will be resolved shortly.
